June 23, 2010

Technology News – Mobile 4G (fourth generation) technology marked a bitter rivalry between WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwaves Access) and LTE (the Long Term Evolution).

As a technology which comes first, Wi-MAX apparently started being pressured by the challenger, which is LTE. Research firm Allied Business Intelligence (ABI) revealed Inc., the world’s mobile operators began to hesitate to use WiMAX after LTE appears. However, ABI asserted, the first mobile operator in the world to leave and move on to LTE, WiMAX is a Russian cellular operator Yota Ltd.

ABI noted, had long Yota offer 4G WiMAX mobile internet services in Russia. But after attending LTE, WiMAX Yota left. Proven, Yota using LTE technology, rather than WiMAX, in 15 major cities in Russia, which stretches from Moscow to Saint Petersburg. Yota LTE network construction is expected to be completed in 2011.

“This Yota Step is an early sign that Yota will leave a total of WiMAX since switching to LTE. As a result, any future WiMAX is now a big question mark,” says Practice Director, Allied Business Intelligence Inc., Philip Solis.

Inc. research firm Strategy Analytics estimates that LTE is going to dominate the global cellular modem market in 2014 because at that LTE will dominate the global market share of 42 percent.
