Microsoft finally “peace” with Europe
December 19, 2009Microsoft ended the long feud with the European Commission related to the monopoly of the Internet Explorer browser that sold a package with Windows programs. Millions of computer users in Europe is now officially free to choose the browser they want.
This agreement ultimately become final for 10-year feud between the software giant with antitrust regulators of the European Union.
The European Commission argued that Microsoft had broken competition rules of the browser market share by selling a package Internet Explorer with the Windows operating system.
Began mid-March, approximately 100 million citizens of the European users of Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows Internet Explorer 7 with default browser as they will receive automatic updates in the form of pop-ups contain the browser options. Such information quoted from the Daily Mail, Thursday (17/12/2009).
Pop-up includes the 12 most common browsers used on Windows computers, including Internet Explorer, Apple Safari, Google Chrome, Opera and AOL. Users can select and download one or several browsers available in the options list. Options browsers will always be updated every six months.
Thus, this will be the first time Windows users are offered the option to choose a browser other than Internet Explorer. This means, this agreement provides a new audience in a large scale for many companies a browser with a smaller scale.
