Mandriva Linux is rumored to be sold

Software News – Mandriva, the French company known as Mandriva Linux distro developer is rumored to be sold. Issues of financial difficulty is the reason sales of the company.

In his statement at the Mandriva Online (MLO), quoted by Softpedia, Tuesday (05/11/2010) two companies have reportedly interested in acquiring Mandriva. Both are companies from London, and French LightApp Linagora.

Linagora an open-source software developer company which originated from the same country with Mandriva. While LightApp is the creator of the solution to the ‘low-cost computers’, the PC in the traditional sense.

Mandriva yet to provide a more detailed explanation about the proposed sale, although MLO has been quoting from official documents. Mandriva convoluted financial problems since a few years ago, and got worse this year. Mandriva now operates with a very small budget, and survive to keep selling the product until its end.

Mandriva Linux has been present for more than a decade, since it was launched in 2008. Originally known by the name andrake Mandriva Linux. His name was changed to Mandriva Linux after the company combined with Conectiva, developer based in Brazil. There are several versions of Mandriva Linux is aimed at different markets and needs, from the user’s PC to the corporate market. Mandriva currently employs approximately 80 people.
