Pentagon Opens returned Facebook and YouTube access

The United States military members who are in the Department of Defense headquarters, the Pentagon finally allowed to access Facebook, Twitter and Youtube.

Previous since 2007, the United States defense department banned all military members to open a site that assessed the risk of network security threats.

U.S. Defense Department officials realized that the social networking benefits outweigh the risk of security threats. Previously access to the network sites will be blocked completely by friendship pentagon.

But a new policy should not directly open access to Facebook, Twitter or Youtube. From time to time the Pentagon was going to do blocking for security purposes or the mission of saving bandwidth.

United States Secretary of the Department of Defense, Robert Gates revealed that social networking is needed by the Pentagon, especially in interacting with its members. most members are recruited at young people aged 20 years and ordinary course familiar with the Internet.

Internet has become the Pentagon’s own needs, especially for the army recruitment process, relations with the community and even to establish the relationship between family members.

The Pentagon also still apply blocking against a number of sites such as pornography sites, and gambling. Thus was launched the BBC, Saturday (27/2/2010).

“We must take steps to increase the capacity of profitable, this is the era of Web 2.0,” said said David Wennergren, Deputy Assistant Secretary U.S. Department of Defense information technology field.
