Geocities has been closed by yahooo

Yahoo finally decided to close the web hosting service Geocities has ever bought $ 3 billion worth.

“We’ve felt the give hosting sites made by Internet users around the world, and we are proud to have become part of that success. But in the future, we want to help consumers on the Internet to explore and develop Internet communications in a different way,” said Yahoo, as quoted by news.com, Tuesday (october,27,2009).

To mark the disappearance of Geocities, a popular web comic to make changes to their layout, so similar to Geocities display, complete with scrolling text, animated icons and image links.

Geocities closure took place a week after Yahoo reported a policy of cutting production costs to help boost corporate profits, due to the impact of revenue decline 12 percent in the third quarter of this year. Also Yahoo has also reduced the number of employees to 2,000 people. Yahoo currently numbering 13,200 employees.

Geocities itself developed since 1994 in Beverly Hills. Yahoo bought GeoCities in line with the intention of expansion, when the service dot com was boom in the 90′s.
