First Obama’s Tweet from Haiti

U.S. President Barack Obama for the first time send tweet or twitter message from the location of the earthquake disaster in Haiti today. Obama joined with millions of other Twitter users, use the site to convey microblogging the latest information related to natural disasters that hit Haiti.

As reported by AFP, Tuesday (19/1/2010), Obama and his wife Michelle, visited a modest office at the center of medical services the U.S. Red Cross. There Obama gave encouragement to the staff and Red Cross volunteers who worked hard to help the earthquake victims in Haiti.

“We are very grateful for the tremendous hard work that you all do,” Obama said as he entered the operational headquarters of American Red Cross, chaired by Bonnie McElveen-Hunter.

As he entered the room Obama could type a message Twitter, he then stopped at the table the media team, then send the message to all citizens of Twitter in various parts of the world.

“President Obama and the First Lady is currently in Haiti, visited the disaster operations center,” the contents of messages posted Obama Twitter.

Tweet is then immediately attract the attention of millions of Twitter users. Several other Twitter messages quickly emerged that Obama’s comment on the tweet. “President Obama sends a new message. This is the first message sent from Haiti,” said one Twitter user.

Internet, especially Twitter and other social networking sites have become an important tool in helping spread the latest information related to the earthquake in Haiti. People can find the location where their relatives in the disaster-stricken Haiti, post photos or record video link areas affected by the earthquake. Through Twitter also, the U.S. Red Cross team may be able to raise funds for more than USD22 million for the earthquake victims Haiti coordinated through a chain message on Twitter.

This is not the first time the power of Twitter can suck the public attention to an important event was happening. Obama was, in advance are known to be very active use of the Internet and social networking sites for a variety of interests and more close to the public.
