Google in online search market in China continued to slide this year. Predictably, this trend will continue as the growing popularity of Baidu, a local search engine from China, among the new Web user in this country, declared a government report released on Monday evening (21/9) yesterday.

Google, which is kept trying to steal market share of their local rivals, Baidu, only a major search-engine for around 12.7 percent of users at the end of this month. Domain registration agency reported in China, China Internet Network Information Center, this figure dropped 3.9 percent-points from last year. Meanwhile, Baidu is still dominant controls 77.2 percent of the market or an increase 0.3 percent-points.

The report also states, compared to Baidu users, Google users also tend to be easy to switch to another search engine.

“Google is not the primary choice for new Internet users,” as stated in the report. “As the number of Internet users grows exponentially, Baidu users also will continue to grow.”

Only 6 percent of search-engine users in China had tried Bing, a new search engine that launched Microsoft. However, large user base of Internet Explorer and Windows Live Messenger is expected to be hoisted up the figure. Internet Explorer is still by far the most common browsers used in China, and Windows Live Messenger is the most popular chat software in the office and Internet cafes in China.

The growth rate of Internet users in China extraordinary. Google is more popular among Internet users, middle to upper. Meanwhile, Baidu became the primary choice for users who want to find a variety of entertainment features, such as downloading music or video search.

To compete with Baidu, Google launched this year the service to download free music that they offer only in China. This service seems to attract young people of China. However, the users reported they were less satisfied with the music search Google than other search engines. Only one of three states of Google users never access the search service is free music. Meanwhile, nearly three out of four users admitted using a similar feature in Baidu.

Meanwhile, Yahoo is only a primary choice for 1.6 percent of users in China. This figure did not move compared to the end of last year’s figure. Yahoo now competing with a number of local search engines to fight the cake that was devoured by Google and Baidu (source: IDG News Service-YahooNews).
