Australia criticized by Google for Internet Filter Policy

Internet giant Google launched a scathing criticism of the Australian government’s policy plans to filter Internet content. Google says, the policy would bring harm to Australia.

Google suggests should, Australia only focus filter harmful content for children and also to prevent child predators in cyberspace. These measures have been carried out by the British, Canadian, Danish, Finnish, and Swedish.

“Step blocking of some content will damage the reputation of the Australian government, Australia is a country that the liberal democracies which prioritizes a balance between individual freedom with social responsibility,” wrote Google to the Australian government, as reported by watoday, Wednesday (3/24/2010).

Government of Australia in fact, had planned content filtering policies since December past. However, the new plan will take effect next week. Content filtering will be done by Internet service providers (ISPs) in Australia. Blocked content, among others related to sexual violence, drugs and child pornography.

Google worried about, eventually, will also be touched blocking materials in Twitter, YouTube and Facebook

Not only, Google, Yahoo! Australia also criticized the policy of the dreaded filter can be widened.
