54% of U.S. companies Block Facebook & Twitter
several companies in the United States (U.S.) prohibits employees to access social networking sites (this is done more than half the 54 percent of companies), such as Facebook and Twitter, while at work. This according to a survey of more than 1,400 companies conducted by independent research institute based in California (Robert Half Technology).
As quoted from page Digital Media, one in five (19 percent) the company allow friendship sites are used for matters related to employment. While 16 percent allow it be used for private purposes but is limited, and 10 percent longer let their employees use social networking sites for any purpose.
Dave Willmer, executive director of Robert Half Technology, said the use of social networking sites could break the concentration of employees from their main task, which is understandable why many companies restrict employee access to these sites.
“But for some professions, these sites can be an effective business tool. Therefore, one of five companies allow employees to access these sites for anything related to work,” he said.
While studies conducted Deloitte, Beeline Labs, and the Society for New Communications Research found that despite the recession, 94 percent of companies keep investing in online communities and social media.
