Thousands of HP Laptop Batteries Units ‘withdrawn’

Hardware News – The rise of the burning laptop battery cases to make the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the United States called for Hewlett Packard (HP) to immediately take steps to pull the battery in a laptop computer products.

It is estimated that, HP would attract approximately 54 thousand units of lithium-ion batteries found in HP and Compaq laptops. Previously, HP also has attracted approximately 70 thousand batteries for the same series.

According to CPSC spokesman Scott Wolfson revealed 38 withdrawals were related to batteries that go to the CPSC report. “At least 11 people have been injured in the burning of these batteries,” Wolfson said as quoted by Digitaltrends, Saturday (05/22/2010).

The battery will fire when the user is charged a laptop for too long. “The industry must immediately change the batteries,” said Wolfson.

HP himself stated, that the battery problem only affects HP products that are marketed in August 2007 until July 2008. Flammable laptop batteries, according to HP’s batteries are sold separately from the HP laptop.
